What Is Direct Left?

Created by activist and author Peter Daou, Direct Left provides an unfiltered perspective on politics and policy beyond the red-blue binary.

About Peter Daou

War survivor. Militia conscript. Jazz pianist. Chart-topping remixer. Political author. Clinton adviser. Establishment exile. Peter has traveled an eclectic path from a battle-scarred childhood in Beirut to the war rooms of two presidential campaigns.

An outspoken activist, he was described by the NY Times as “one of the most prominent political bloggers in the nation.” The Washington Post said his early digital advocacy helped innovate “a whole new way of campaigning.”

Before entering the political arena, Peter was a prolific producer and keyboardist, co-producing three #1 Billboard Club singles and appearing on recordings by artists including Bjork, Miles Davis, Janet Jackson, Diana Ross, and Mariah Carey.

Peter’s current projects include a live weekly conversation on Callin, and The Sanctuary, a space for peace and personal reflection featuring his original solo piano meditations.
