America Officially Surrenders to COVID
Republicans take a victory lap as Democrats lift mask mandates, embrace mass death.
In May 2020, the New York Times ran a front page story on the “incalculable loss” of 100,000 Americans dying from COVID-19.
16 months later, more than 600,000 white flags were planted on the National Mall to memorialize the victims of the pandemic. Each flag held a written message honoring someone who had died of coronavirus.
Fast forward to the present, and nearly a million victims are buried below the fold.
With the daily death toll near the highest point of the pandemic, the Biden administration has decided to abandon the farce that it is any better than Trump and Republicans.

As the White House signals total surrender to the virus, Democratic officials across the country are ditching even the most basic mitigation measures.

The Democratic Party has dropped all pretense to being the party of science, openly joining the GOP in treating mass death as an acceptable price for capitalism and electoral politics.

As usual, the victims of this cruel and cowardly political calculus are the most vulnerable:

Not surprisingly, Republicans are taking a victory lap:
Conservative activists and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin are claiming vindication after several states controlled by Democrats lifted their school mask mandates, even as his executive order allowing parents to opt-out of such mandates faces continued opposition.
Leftists have repeatedly argued that Biden is no better than Trump on the pandemic. Both presidents and their parties have prioritized money over lives, guaranteeing that billionaire bank accounts grow astronomically as the working class suffers and dies.
The difference is that Democrats have pretended to be the responsible party, using the deceptive term “pandemic of the unvaccinated” to blame anti-vaxxers for the hundreds of thousands of deaths under Biden’s watch. But the Democratic mask is off (literally), and the disabled, immunocompromised, unvaccinated children, older adults, and other vulnerable populations will pay the ultimate price.

In October 2020, Joe Biden accused Donald Trump of giving up on the pandemic: “As president, I will never wave the white flag of surrender. We can and will control this virus.” Now, both ruling parties have surrendered to Covid. The numbers don’t lie: The virus is “killing Americans at far higher rates than people in other wealthy nations.” The NY Times reports that “since Dec. 1, the share of Americans who have been killed by the coronavirus is at least 63 percent higher than in any of these other large, wealthy nations.”
The U.S. government’s handling of the pandemic is absolutely shameful. And it is criminal.
