What Gives You Hope?
We're living through terrible times. Is there anything that inspires hope?
DIRECT DAOU for 3.29.22: What gives you hope?
Thereโs so much in the world to feel hopeless about. War. Racism. Misogyny. Violence. Inequality. Poverty. Hunger. The pandemic. Is there anything that gives us reason for hope?
Here are some responses to the question when I posed it on Twitter:
@peterdaou Sunshine and encouragement from strangers on Twitter who fill the void of family I never really had.
I'm going to need lots of both for about 11 days.

@peterdaou i just got my dream job helping refugees and asylum seekers after 6 years of trying and it owns so fucking much and it's within walking distance of where we live
@peterdaou the kids who are watching critically
the passion of activists in the streets
the people of my community
the fact that time comes for us all, and most of our country's leadership is getting closer to the inevitable
@peterdaou That the Smithsonian's African American History Museum is so immensly popular it's still nearly impossible to get in, years after it opened.
@peterdaou My kids. I have to try to hold onto some level of hope. The alternative is too unbearable to think about.
@peterdaou Connection, kindness, mindfulness, gratitude, creativity, humor, passion, mystery, music, pain transformed into healing, quick shifts in public perception regarding healthcare etc, systems have been rebuilt, continued inventive sustainability ๐คทโโ๏ธ
@peterdaou More Americans now support unions and by a wide majority. Also people trying to start unions at Starbucks and Amazon. And the Teamsters and UAW members reclaiming their unions from corrupt neoliberal corporate shills. There will be more strikes. We need a #GeneralStrike.
Good to see that kids are a significant theme and that folks care about the World we're going to leave them.
